Furthermore, he played pivotal roles in prominent matches and tournaments, such as the Kasparov-Karpov (1987, 1990), Karpov-Kamsky (1996), Karpov-Anand (1998), FIDE World Championship (1999), and the Kramnik-Topalov face-off in 2006.
